Domaso – What to see
The church of San Bartolomeo dates back to at least the 13th century. Inside there are 6th century frescoes, 7th centry stuccoworks, rich baroque furniture, a 16th century procession crucifix by the engraver Lierni di Como and a altar-piece figuring a “Madonna with child and S.Peter”, by Morazzone.
Villa Camilla, built at the beginning of 17th century, is located on the lakefront. It has a neoclassic main body and the building excellently represents the structure of the patrician villas of this area. It is surrounded by a vast park of around 8000 sqm. In the garden there are 19th century artificial tuff caves and a wide variety of plants and flowers, like camellias, cedars and conifers.
Passed Domaso you arrive at the small village of Gera Lario, where you can visit the Church of San Vincenzo, with its 3rd century mosaic flooring and some 6th century frescoes. Then there is the small village of Montemezzo on the Pian di Spagna.
The last town you encounter on the north-western bank is Sorico, interesting village with nice landscapes and antique towers from where you can set out on trips to Val Chiavenna.
